Cincinnati pest control

We are Ohio's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Cincinnati raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Cincinnati pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Cincinnati Raccoon Control Tip: How To Clean An Attic Contaminated With Raccoon Feces
Dealing with a raccoon infestation yourself can prove to be taxing work, and even when you have caught the problem raccoon and relocated it safely, unfortunately you do still have some work to do before the job is done. There are a range of diseases that can be transmitted by raccoons, with many of these being present in the urine and feces of the raccoon. Therefore, if you have dealt with a raccoon infestation, you should also make sure you clean the area thoroughly to prevent it from being a health hazard in the future.

Precautions To Take Before Starting Cleaning Work
Firstly, because there is a health threat posed by raccoon droppings, it is important to take appropriate precautions that will help to keep you safe. You should always wear long sleeved clothing and suitable gloves that will prevent you from direct contact with the feces, which is one potential threat. Because the droppings can also transmit spores and parasite eggs that can become airborne, you should also wear a breathing mask and goggles to prevent you from contracting conditions in this way.

Removing Loose Feces
The first step of cleaning the attic is to deal with any loose feces in the attic, and for this you can use a thick garbage bag in order to collect the droppings and remove them safely. You can use gloved hands to pick up and remove the feces, or in more established infestations where there is a greater volume of droppings to be removed, a small trowel can come in useful in this regard too. When it comes to disposing of any loose feces, if you double bag the garbage bags, it can usually be put out safely with regular garbage, although the safest method of disposal is to incinerate this where possible.

Dealing With Feces Encrusted On Wood Or Stuck To Insulation
In some cases, the feces itself may be stuck on to some of the surfaces in the attic, but in this cases it does still need to be removed. Damping the feces in some cases can help you to remove the droppings, but where a surface is particularly coated by feces, then you may need to either scrape it away, or in some cases it may be easier to actually replace a panel of insulation material. When it comes to replacing insulation, always make sure that any replacement panels used are of the appropriate size so there aren't any gaps in the insulation, and that they are of a suitable material.

Check For Any Other Required Repairs
In some cases, there may also be other repairs that will need to be carried out after dealing with a raccoon infestation. Among the common jobs here is the sealing of any holes that the raccoon was using to get in and out of the attic, which should be sealed with metal flashing or similar sturdy material that will be strong enough to keep other animals out. You should also check any electrics or wires in the area to make sure that they haven't been damaged.

Disinfecting The Attic
The final step in the work to clean the attic is to fumigate the attic, and the equipment for this is often available to rent from hardware stores, or can also be purchased as well. The fluid should be an appropriate disinfectant that is created into a mist that is pumped throughout the attic, which will kill any remaining bacteria and spores that were left behind after the raccoon and its feces have been removed from the area.
